The projects anchor primarily on community needs and in turn are informed by overarching national policies such as Poverty Reduction Strategy, Food Security Policy, etc which aim at:

- Poverty Alleviation - Employment Creation - Income Generation and - Household food security.

The focus of the projects is two pronged (economic and social), based on potential economic and social drivers for specific operational sites, hence:

1. A Healthy Environment For All To Enhance Livelihoods Improvement - The biodiversity conservation project, which is a co-financed initiative between SDA and the Global Environment Facility’s Small Grants Programme (GEF/SGP)...

2. Wool and Mohair production [fibre improvement through purchase of improved Merino Rams and Angora Bucks, Access to medication]

3. Potato production [table or ware and seed]

4. Handicrafts through use a locally available resources such as grass, clay and mohair and 4. Eco-tourism .

1. Health and well being

Poultry production (dual purpose chickens), Home gardens (vegetable production) and low cost drip irrigation kits are aimed for household food security to enhance dietary intake and nutrition. Surplus production may however be converted into cash by households to meet their needs and wants.

2. Leadership and governance

This is meant to enhance sustenance of any development initiative. This is very important for community embedded structures. This further prepares communities for the Government of Lesotho Policy on Decentralisation and formation of Local Government structures which require strong support of local and traditional leaders to meaningfully contribute to the success of their won development initiatives.
